Schools in their Communities – Photos

During all of my school visits in the United Kingdom, I have taken some time to acknowledge that when I am visiting a school, I am also visiting the surrounding community. I believe schools should live and operate as part of the overall community, not as isolated gatekeepers. I appreciate how open the communities of families, students and staff have been during my time here.

These photographs were taken on various school visits, mostly in Scotland. With a few visits, I couldn’t find an ideal time to take a photo – I try to avoid being the guy seen stealthily taking photos of elementary schools. I am also wary of taking or posting pictures of students and families without proper consent. That said, I do think homes and school buildings can often speak for themselves. I find beauty in thinking about the connections and love in what can often be seen as simple or even flawed structures.
